WW17 is The Who at The Arizona Veterans Memorial Stadium, Phoenix, Arizona 12-7-71. This recording here is bit distant sounding in which maybe a good thing because The Who were incredibly loud this day. There is feedback that occurs on and off during the show and you can hear members of the audience saying "oh...." in agony at times. I did use an option in remastering this show that I've done before that I don't do very often and usually it will bring out the very best out of a recording and that's taking this 16 bit recording & changing it to 32 bit for the remastering and then changing it back to 16 bit for the final process. As well as using the features of dynamic processing, hiss reduction & noise reduction in Cool Edit. There is some right channel hiss that is evident within the recording as well two cuts in the recording that occur because of the taper's tape ending at and during: "Won't Get Fooled Again" & "Sparks". This is not a great audience recording, and lacking in the fidelity department but, very listenable. One thing I'd like to say about this recording is the band's playing and performance is up to par, especially Keith Moon's drumming. This show here also features a song that The Who played during this tour and didn't play it very often and that is a song called; "Going Down" mostly an instrumental improvisation segueing into the night's encore; "Naked Eye" and then at the end of the song & much to the crowd's amazement Pete smashes yet another guitar, a Gibson SG Special ! A big thank you goes to Eric for once again doing a spendid job on the artwork for WW17. Enjoy ! John
